Role Description
What you’ll be doing:
• Located in Warsaw, Poland, you will be responsible for leading the creation of the appropriate business winning environment through market understanding, market planning and positioning, developing opportunities and pursuing captures/campaigns. This role will be primarily focussed on developing and managing a Strategic Regional Campaign within Poland, but may cover other countries or capability campaigns as required. There may be a secondary aspect to the role which will aid in top-level European campaign development, especially across Eastern Europe and/or NATO, for example: specific capability assessment and growth; Events and Exhibitions planning or Marketing Strategy evolution.
• You will be managing the Poland Campaign, and may need to manage specific Opportunity Captures where necessary, with limited complexity. You will be responsible for winning business in line with the specified pipeline opportunities, and developing market accessibility or prospected opportunities where identified. You will be responsible for identifying, managing and developing appropriate counterpart customer, government and industry relationships for a specific geography, opportunity or organisation and accountable for identifying, developing and qualifying new opportunities to either the point that a pursue/stop decision is made, or through to completion.
• The role requires working closely with the other Business Development Managers and Campaign leads to focus and structure our BD activities for specific opportunities and route-to-market strategies, therefore a level of Business Development experience is necessary.
• Where appropriate, you will be responsible for providing relevant Management Information at the agreed upon points, in a timely manner, to the management team.
Core Duties
Directs all aspects of both short-term Opportunity wins and longer term strategic captures, owning the business winning activities and winning the order in line with the specified terms and margin target. Leads the development of a long-term and sustainable strategic campaign plan and pipeline for their region of responsibility.
Throughout Business Winning lifecycle:
• Generates opportunities that support the Corporate/Business IBP objective and result in a suitably balanced portfolio of opportunities, products and markets.
• Provides support to pan-Company opportunities and alignment of Business IBP to strategic opportunities
• Working with stakeholders, you will develop and own the Country Plan
• Have a key role leading understanding and influencing/shaping of the customer requirement, defining opportunity timeline and acting as customer advocate during solution development
• Develops clear understanding of and communicates the customer procurement process and customer Critical Success Factors & ”Hot Buttons” that underpin the win strategy
• Manages, develops and maintains a strong relationship with the customers, key influencers, governments, local consultants (where used) and internal stakeholders. Understands customer organisations, culture, processes, constraints and working practices and be able to relate these back into business
• Leads and/or works closely with Capture/ Project teams to share and focus key messages, supporting customer engagement where appropriate to specific captures or projects & understand current customer issues/concerns
• Major contributor to communications plan and (typically leader of) the customer/stakeholder identification and contact plan elements of the Capture Plan
Customer and Stakeholder Engagement:
• Leads customer requirement influencing strategy, requirement interpretation and Solution option generation including make/buy and partnering /teaming strategy
• Leads stakeholder management at all appropriate levels across multiple organisations and keeps the Business Leadership Team informed and engaged, including timely escalation of issues needing resolution
• Defines and influences customer relationship management strategy and engages senior Company executives in contact activity. Utilises customer review data to truly understand customer perceptions and support capture activity
• Ensures smooth hand-over to Project Manager for delivery phase
Functional:
• Engages internal stakeholders and secures support, buy-in and bid approvals for the solution(s).
• Leads lessons learnt activity, Miller Heiman activities and Colour reviews where appropriate
• Supports the development and deployment of functional learning and development
There will be opportunity and request to get involved with, and sometimes lead, other Business Development activities across the International team, including but not limited to:
- Early Business Development Activities/Lead Generation
- Events and Exhibitions – planning, attending and Customer follow-up
- Marketing and Communications planning and execution
- Campaign or Country/Regional management and strategy activities
Leadership:
• Effective interpersonal abilities necessary for leading and interacting with diverse work teams across multiple projects
• Ability to work empathetically across multiple cultures, time-zones and language barriers where they may exist
• Understanding of working within potentially high stress environments and ability to manage and adapt as required
• Ability to define a capture strategy, lead others to execute and manage/coordinate a multi-disciplined team
• Strong influencing skills across Senior colleages, Customers, Industry Partners and peers
Area of Impact:
• Quality and timeliness of work produced impacts the immediate team.
• Internal stakeholders who rely on the service provided to support business operations (sometimes critical)
• Business performance through delivery of important business solutions
• Significant external customer facing responsibility to maintain and improve the company's reputation and brand to the highest standards
Budget Responsibilities
The role holder:
Will have a budget allocated to specific opportunities to manage, and will be responsible for requesting said budget and aligning resource via the mandated business processes and formal lifecycle reviews
Functional Knowledge:
• Business Winning experience and an understanding of business winning behaviours, processes, procedures and industry best practice.
• Experience in leading, managing and delivering significant campaigns/capturers (business important and/or significant value campaigns/captures).
• Some experience of engaging senior stakeholders, particularly customers, and the ability to build mutually beneficial relationships
• Some experience with government defence acquisition agencies, both in Poland and internationally would be beneficial
• Takes ownership for own tasks, defining own and team objectives
• Works on own initiative with responsibility for delivery
