The Principal Security Analyst acts as a subject matter expert, performs complex analysis, provides QA, and performs a supervisory role within the CTI team, deputising for the Lead when required. They take on responsibility for executing and overseeing key CTI tasks, managing and supporting team members in their daily work, mentoring analysts, and ensuring the quality of intelligence products. They assist in prioritising deployment of the analytical capability and collaborate effectively across range of stakeholders.
Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the Prinicpal Security Analyst to:
- Provide quality assurance for analytical products and processes.
- Manage and support the team through mentorship and guidance.
- Assist in prioritising the deployment of analytical capability by contributing to task management.
- Initiate intelligence collection, particularly for complex requirements and perform complex threat intelligence analysis.
- Collaborate with HMG and partner agencies on intelligence sharing and joint analysis.
- Identify innovation within intelligence and work with Lead on initiatives that matures the function and both the wider CSOC and Threat Operations service offerings.
- Carry out the core CTI responsibilities, often focusing on more complex tasks.
- Assume a greater proportion of the specialist responsibilities.
- Contribute to aspects of sharing/reporting, vulnerability advisory creation, landscape assessments, use-case development and procedure and process creation.
- Support the lead in the execution of the CTI strategy, TI integration, intel escalation, metrics creation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide representation during daily and weekly operational meetings; contribute to KPI production and statistics reporting.
- Deputise for the CTI Lead in their absence, assuming key responsibilities as guided.
- Identify and prioritise threats and vulnerabilities.
- Contribute in intelligence and response exercises (e.g. red teaming, threat hunting, table tops and analytical exercises) through its design, and oversight.
- Act as managerial/technical point for high-complexity incidents or analysis.
- Perform all duties expected of the CTI Analyst role at a higher level.
Provide mentoring to CTI Analysts and Junior Analysts. Contribute to appraisals and performance reporting as per line management responsibilities.
