The successful applicant will be responsible for managing software engineering and system integration projects and managed services to support our clients in UK Government and Cyber Security.  They will have a successful track record of agile and waterfall delivery in a software engineering or technology systems integration setting and will be able to apply this knowledge without direct supervision, as well as coach others to do the same.  They will be adaptable and able to take on a wide range of delivery challenges, both in terms of delivery methodology and solution scope. They will have strong communication skills and an ability to manage relationships with customers, colleagues and suppliers.

What you'll be doing:

  • Determining the best means of satisfying customer requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints;
  • Managing both internal and external stakeholders, taking into account their levels of influence and interests;
  • Developing and managing teams, including managing their delivery and performance and providing appraisal and support to their development;
  • Developing and agreeing budgets for projects and controlling forecast and actual costs against them;
  • Preparing and maintaining schedules or agile delivery products for project activities and events, taking account of dependencies, resource requirements and critical paths, reporting and tracking milestones, reporting progress and managing contingency and risk;
  • Developing, maintaining and applying quality management processes for project activities and outputs;
  • Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities and issues, and quality requirements), escalating any exceptions, and implementing where necessary, protocols to change the scope of the delivery;
  • Defining and creating appropriate progress reports, managing RAID items and escalating with customers and within the business as appropriate, including identifying and monitoring project threats and opportunities, planning and implementing mitigation plans, responding to other issues that affect delivery;
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Promoting BAE Systems Digital Intelligence in all actions, acting in a morally, legally and socially appropriate manner.

About you

You will have experience in many of the following:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good understanding of agile and waterfall methodologies, toolsets, process and governance;
  • Five years of project and delivery management experience demonstrated in a professional role within a business or project:
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills;
  • Experience developing and managing teams, including managing their delivery and performance and providing appraisal and support to their development;
  • An understanding of the factors that contribute to successful project delivery and stakeholder management;
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems;
  • Experience managing teams, including managing their delivery and performance; providing appraisals and supporting their development;
  • Competency with common tools such as MS Excel and Word, Atlassian suite, Gitlab, MS Project;
  • A desire to co-locate with colleagues in a BAE or customer office at least three days per week.

It would be great if you also had experience in some of these, but if not we’ll help you with them:

  • APM Project Management Qualification, PMI Project Management Professional certification or a recognised Agile qualification;
  • Experience in a technical role or an appreciation of software development lifecycles;
  • Ability to identify, adopt and tailor good practice;
  • Delivery experience in a Government or Law Enforcement setting;
  • Experience with commercial bid writing.

Security Clearance is required for this vacancy. If you are not currently Security Cleared, you will need to be eligible for this and willing to go through the process.
