The role holder:

 

  • will work as a member of the procurement and supply chain team to provide procurement expertise, services and support to meet the operational needs of the business in relation to a strategically important/very complex package, bid or supplier.
  • will involve driving procurement solutions, requiring the job holder to plan, deliver and deploy appropriate procurement supply chain interventions in support of business aims, under the guidance of the Procurement Manager or Procurement Senior Manager.

 

 

Working on a hybrid working arrangement the ideal candidate will be required to travel to at least one of the sites (London & Guildford) for several days every week as the work dicates,  so ideally resides close to these locations. You must also be a UK national, and have UK Security Clearance.

 

Core Duties

  • As part of Procurement Bid Team ensure the Procurement strategies are being enacted through major bids and campaigns to support business winning and growth.
  • Support and/or manage subcontract activities in conjunction with Commercial, project and technical teams including: subcontract construct; contract negotiation; and, contract implementation, ensuring robust handshake to the Procurement Delivery Team as appropriate for ongoing through-life or in-contract delivery.
  • Implement supplier and third party bid winning/support strategy; ensuring that critical supplier relationships are cultivated, developed and maintained so as to allow the business to fully meet customer current and future needs.
  • Engage, manage and influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure the bid service provision:
    • Meets the governance requirements of the business and our customers.
    •  
    • Delivers optimum value for money from competitive advantage by applying market knowledge and commercial acumen to drive value and innovation, decrease risk and support CSR targets through the supply chain
    • Supports a continuous improvement philosophy through the supply chain; keeping Digital Intelligence ahead of the game in terms of customer offerings.
    • Manages flow down of terms from Customer contract to the supply chain in order to protect BAE Systems’ position.
    • Achieves the required service level as agreed with internal stakeholders.
  • Seek out and lead opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of Company systems,  risk and supplier management tools.
  • Enable open communication with suppliers to encourage collaboration and innovation where appropriate.
  • May have responsibility for leading and developing a team or be a lead for an area of activity or objective on behalf of the wider team.
  • Where appropriate, effectively delegate, ensuring priorities are managed and any issues of concern are escalated.
  • Ability to deputise for the Procurement Manager or Procurement Senior Manager.
  • Be an advocate for the Procurement Function.

 

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for representing Procurement in assigned bids containing third party spend, ensuring a compliant process, supported by a Procurement Manager or Procurement Senior Manager.
  • Maintain effective communications and develop appropriate relationships with internal and external stakeholders and become an advocate for Procurement.
  • Accountable for discharging an agreed workload, working within procurement policy, ensuring priorities are managed and issues are escalated
  • As a member of the Procurement team will deploy corporate Procurement processes in line with local or business requirements.
  • The role holder is responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety ensuring high standards for safety, health and environment (SHE) in our organisation are maintained. This includes; co-operating and following all reasonable instruction, information and training; reporting work-related hazards or incidents and using all equipment for the purpose intended. What we're looking for

  • Likely to have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within a procurement and/or similar environment
  • Possess a high standard of Procurement competence in key areas of sourcing, process knowledge, contracting skills and supplier management. Good negotiation skills that drive positive business outcomes and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Good project management skills, product awareness, commercial acumen, financial awareness, risk and opportunity management
  • Demonstrate exemplary business acumen.
  • Works on own initiative with minimal supervision and with responsibility for delivery, escalating concerns.
  • Ability to utilise the collective experience and knowledge within the team to deliver effective solutions.
  • Ability to build, grow and influence networks, outside of own team, to support collaboratively working.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Utilising all available information to prioritise workload and communicate this effectively to stakeholders when required. 
  • Ability to build, grow and influence networks across sector, to support collaborative working. Very good interpersonal skills that support collaborative stakeholder relationships. Very good stakeholder management.  Used to working in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Likely to possess CIPS L5 qualification, working towards or equivalent standard.
  • Must either hold SC or be a UK national eligible to obtain necessary clearances.
